The Good Shepherd Home is more than an aged care provider in Townsville. It’s a community where residents can thrive and engage with the world around them. From recreational activities to cultural events and community outreach, there’s always something happening at The Good Shepherd Home. In this post, we’ll take a closer look at some of the good living we have to look forward to in the month of August, including upcoming events and initiatives. Whether you’re a resident, a family member or simply curious about what’s happening in aged care facilities, this post has something for you. Let’s dive in and see what’s happening at The Good Shepherd Home!

Let’s Get Active

Our Mountain View activity program is alive with activity this August. Easing into the month with a Palmetum walk; be sure to go at your own pace and enjoy the surroundings whilst you’re out! Every Wednesday includes a Chair Yoga session at 10:30am;the perfect opportunity to start your morning with a stretch and release. On Fridays we have Chair Exercise class available for you to participate in, at your own pace, of course.

Social Hour

There are plenty of social opportunities here at The Good Shepherd Home. From our regular morning tea, to chats in the garden. On Wednesday 2nd there will be a First Nations Craft and Yarn at City Library. The week beginning August 14th is also set to be a fun one for the social butterflies among us. There’ll be Ferragost Italian Festival on Tuesday 15th, Picasso Painting on the patio the following day and Kindy Story Time in the hall on Thurusday 17th.

Out and About in the Community

Our August Leisure Room program includes a range of excursions for residents to enjoy. Starting August 1st, we have a picnic on The Strand for residents to attend. Assisted shopping is a regular feature, happening every Monday at either Fairfield, Castletown or Willows. If a beach visit interests you, we’ll be heading there on Friday 11th to enjoy some fish and chips, or Tuesday 15th for a platter. Towards the end of the month we’ll be making a train trip to Charters Towers. Bookings are essential for this one, and for $50 per person we’ll be enjoying a dinner at Gold Mine Chinese Restaurant at the end of the day.
