2025 JCU Graduate Program for Exercise Physiologists
Expressions of interest are invited from final year James Cook University Exercise Physiologist students to join our team of aged care professionals at the Good Shepherd Home in Townsville.
The Good Shepherd Home provides an award-winning program known as the FRIEND*(Frailty Reduction via Implementation of Exercise, Nutritional Support and Deprescribing) program which is providing evidence-based improvements in resident’s strength, mobility and falls prevention. Working within our multidisciplinary environment including physiotherapist, dietician and occupational therapist, you will have the opportunity to develop new programs to help our residents to managetheir movement, pain, balance and improve quality of life.

Registered Nurses / Enrolled Nurses
Applicants must be committed to promoting maximum resident independence and leading care staff in providing individualised contemporary practice Gerontological care.
Current AHPRA registration, exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care and services for aged persons within a residential home-like care environment are essential.

Resident Care Assistants (RCA)
Applicants must be flexible individuals with compassionate qualities and broad availability. Under the supervision of a Registered or Enrolled Nurse, the Home’s multi-skilled RCA delivers direct resident care that supports their dignity and provides for social, physical, spiritual, cultural and emotional needs. Successful applicants will possess the following:
- Ability to follow written procedures and industry guidelines
- High level communication skills to interact with Residents, visitors, supervisors and other employees
- Ability to work well within a team environment
- Ability to provide individualised care within a homelike environment
- Certificate III or IV in Residential Aged Care is advantageous.

Hotel Services: Catering, Cleaning and Laundry
Our Hotel Services staff play a pivotal role in meeting the support services needs of our Home. Under the supervision of a team leader, our multi-skilled Hotel Services staff deliver high level catering, cleaning and laundry services to our residents in accordance with resident needs and related policies and procedures.
Applicants must be enthusiastic, with:
- Good flexibility and broad availability
- Enjoy working within an aged care environment
- Have good organisational and time management skills
- Ability to work well within a team environment
- Similar experience in a hospital or Aged Care facility may be advantageous
