The Good Shepherd Home (TGSH) is leading the way in aged care with its FRIEND program—Frailty Reduction via Exercise, Nutrition, and Deprescribing. Developed with the University of Sydney and James Cook University, the program combines high-intensity resistance exercise, nutritional support, and medication review to improve mobility, independence, and quality of life. In 10 months, 59% of participants avoided falls, 70% gained weight, and 20% reduced medications. A dedicated FRIEND café supports the initiative with high-protein meals.
The Good Shepherd Home is a local supporting sponsor of Ambulance Wish Qld, a volunteer based program that fulfills last wishes for those with a life-limiting illness.
The impact of wishes for both the Recipient and their families is amazing. Ambulance Wish provides families with a professionally produced photobook memory of the wish. By supporting the Ambulance Wish in their endeavours we can help bring comfort and joy to Wish Recipients on their palliative care journey and lasting memories for their loved ones.
