Our History
In 1968 Barbara Rennie and Reverend John Clarkson, members of the local Anglican diocese, founded what is today known as The Good Shepherd Home. In 1972, the first of our purpose-built aged care facilities was constructed. We have since expanded and renovated to accommodate the growing demand for exceptional residential aged care in Townsville. Over the past 50 years The Good Shepherd home has evolved to meet the changing needs of our community. Today, the facility remains true to its founding mission of providing compassionate and outstanding care to those in need, while embracing modern practices and technologies to enhance the lives of our residents.
Location, Location, Location
We’re aptly located in a safe and quiet residential area, away from the bustle of the city, whilst also being conveniently close to key public transport and roads. We have a range of amenities in proximity, including local shops, restaurants, medical clinics and various recreational facilities for our residents to enjoy. Older adults looking for a peaceful and welcoming environment will appreciate our spacious and manicured gardens, offering a serene space that residents and visitors can enjoy. Our grounds are adjacent to the beautiful Ross River, Palmetum and many of our suites feature views of this and Mount Stuart. Older adults, or their loved ones, need not feel like residential aged care means their loved ones are a world away. The Good Shepherd Home provides the ideal balance for seniors looking to enjoy the comfort, convenience and security of our vibrant community.
